NEW TOURNAMENT - SEPTEMBER 24th 2010
Dear Members,
It is the time of year for another tournament at the Squash club Sarajevo and we will be holding it on September 24th 2010 (Friday) starting from 19:00h.
We would very much like to see as many members here as possible even if you just come to watch some matches. During the evening we will be giving a short presentation about the possibility of establishing a league system at the club and therefore anyone interested in being part of such a league has another incentive to come and play or watch.
Please notify us about your intention to participate in the tournament by September 24th 2010 till 15:00h.
1st BiH INTERNATIONAL OPEN
From, Ljubljana, Zagreb, Belgrad and Podgorica, all players safely arrived Friday night in the tournament hotel.
Right from the start our young club learned competition tips from top ranked players. For exemple: how to organise the night before Tournament day. It is a little bit surprising….but obviously water is not always the preferred drink of champions.
Nevertheless, at 11h Saturday morning just before the beginning of first matches, the important SQUASHLAND BELGRADE delegation organised a surprise ceremony and offered a bottle of Champagne MOET & CHANDON and a Club tee shirt to JF LE ROCH for having made it possible to initiate Squash in BOSNIA and HERZEGOVINA.
Then serious business began with first exchanges between the 24 registered conpetitors. SQUASH CLUB SARAJEVO had never seen such a big attendance and in spite of a permanent cold 16° Celsius temperature, the family like atmosphere was very pleasant .
A big “thank you” to all players wifes and friends who did not have a match to warm up every once in while, and have been freezing most of the day.
At 14h the caracteristic cevapcici smell reminded everybody that it was lunchtime.
300 cevapi, 90 suduke and 45 somun disappeared in 15 mn !
At 17 semi final started and were played on“best of 5” format.
At 17h30 the match for 3rd place gave victory to Filip MADARIC from Croatia.
At 18h the final match opposed Goran MILICEVIC from Slovenia to Ivan DJORDJEVIC fromSerbia. No surprise since Goran was seeded number 2 and Ivan number 1.
Ivan Djordjevic won by a clear 3:0.
SQUASH CLUB SARAJEVO Members tried to survive:
ANDREAS 12th
MATUS 13th
FEDA 19th
JFLR 20th
ADIN 21st
With lot of warm applause our 3 winners received their CUP and finally could go for a well deserved shower.
Later that night, Sarajevo was empty and anxiously watching BIH/Portugal football qualification. Once the result was known, Our squash delegations could begin the night at “the Club”.
There again many things have to be learned. Our club instructor FEDZA found his limit and gave up at 4 in the morning while true professionals were still able to walk… almost straight.
Together these 24 players have been writing a page of BiH sport history : First ever SQUASH International TOURNAMENT.
So a big and sincere “merci” to each and everyone of them !
